Kitchen to Go

If you're living the apartment life, it's hard to dismiss the fact that you're living in somewhat of a cookie-cutter-shoebox. Take the kitchen for example- for many, it's the selling feature of the place: new stainless appliances, glossy tile backsplash, solid granite countertops, rich espresso cabinetry- striking features that can make your place stand out... and still feel uninspired.

But, with just a few small changes, you can put a personal spin on your kitchen without breaking the bank.

1. Shelving.
Open shelving is a perfect addition to house frequently used items and show off a few personal treasures. Try a minimalist look with floating shelves.

 2. Dishes.
Dishes are one of the easiest ways to add some visual interest to the room. Choose brightly colored dinnerware with a bold pattern- It'll add instant punch to your place.

3. Artwork.
Hang some images or art that is meaningful to you- pictures of family and friends, and inspirational landscapes- all in funky frames! The kitchen is a room where you'll spend a good deal of time- entertaining, eating, and cleaning- choose artwork that can grow with you- and when you tire of it, switch it up!

4. Pulls and Handles.
*Sigh*- the round chrome knob is not always the right choice. Personalizing cabinetry handles is a quick and easy way to change the look of your kitchen- and if you're renting, keep the old knobs, and switch them back when you move!

5. Textiles.
Choose cloths, tea towels, and other textiles the same you would with dishes- bright with bold prints! At the end of the day, you have to ask "Which tea towel will help motivate me to do the dishes- the beige cloth, or the hot pink neon chamois?" I rest my case.

6. Accessories.
Candles, mirrors, and other decorative accents help you own your space. When selecting candles, opt for mild, clean fragrances. Ultimately, anything can be a decorative accent if it has meaning to you.
